The Curated Take

The Atlas is on the upper side of the Union line up and is one of the best bindings they carry for a rider who loves a stiffer binding. With a sold high back design that is next level and really supports your lower leg. Overall this is a top tier binding from Union that will deliver any where on the mountain.

These bindings are sharp! As someone who gets nervous riding at high speeds, the control and responsiveness I had with these bindings made me feel fully in control going fast and comfortable when moving at that speed. I noticed less responsiveness at slower speeds, especially when trying to make quick turns but nothing drastic and still had good control through those situations.

When it comes to comfort, these bindings live up to the hype. I tested these for 5 consecutive full days in some technical terrain and rarely did I feel a pain point or hot spot develop from the contact points or the sole of my foot, a problem I've encountered with bindings in the past.

And they look so dang good too!

Pros
  • For the aggressive, fast rider looking to tackle every inch of the mountain
  • Medium-stiff flex maintains optimal control and responsiveness at high speeds
  • Comfortable and absorb shock well
Cons
  • Not great at performing quick turns at slower speeds
  • Not for beginner riders, tailored to intermediate to advanced skill levels
  • A little heavier than the average binding but feels normal when riding

This is my ideal binding for all mountain high performance. The stiffer highback and baseplate make for smooth efficient energy transfer edge to edge. The rubberized toe and heel are great for both dampening and impact support underfoot. I upgraded to the Atlas after riding the Strata last season and the Force for 8 seasons before that. I love running the Atlas on all my boards but I feel they perform the best with a stiffer cambered deck. I would recommend these to anyone who's building a binding quiver. When you need a little more 'umph' in your bindings this is my preferred choice!

Pros
  • Carbon injection in baseplate mold makes energy transfer edge to edge lightning quick
  • Vaporlite bushing absorbs vibrations under foot
  • Tool-less adjustments makes switching up strap lengths and forward lean a breeze
Cons
  • Stiff highback and baseplate not well suited for beginners
  • Forward lean adjustment dial can get stuck sometimes
