The Elan Ripstick at a first glance looks impressive. The unique asymmetrical shaped skis have a designated left and right ski. It have a very wide Tip shovel at 136 and a tail width at 110 witch makes these ski excellent for powder days! As for the flex of the ski the tip is a very soft flex while at the underfoot and tail its very stiff making it the ultimate All-mountain ripper!
These skis are excellent at carving, you can really hard charge these on the groomers, but be carful they do tip chatter at very high speed. while the asymmetrical shaped give a unique fun feeling while carving they are a little weird to get used to.
As for the off-trail, they can actually handle pretty well in the soft snow thanks to the wide/soft tip shovel that the Ripstick have and they float really well as good as most powder skis even at a 96 underfoot. These feel really comfortable in the glades especially on a fresh powder day. however on a hard pack day I would stick to the groomers as the Ripstick doesn't do too well in the hard pack moguls due to having a stiffer tail. You have to really lean into the tips to initiate a quicker turn due to having a very soft flexing tip.
Over all these are fantastic skis and I really recommend these to anyone who favors groomer but occasionally go like to go off-trail.
- All Mountain, Favors more on-piste terrain
- Float in soft powder Great in trees
- Very Lightweight
- Asymmetrical shaped took me a few runs to get used to
- hard to turn in on hard pack moguls
