The Curated Take
Burton is the #1 snowboarding company in the world. They know what they're doing when it comes to design, function, features and comfort. The Burton Ion BOA is a high level boot, designed for the high level rider who's looking to get the most out of their day on the mountain. This is also a great boot for the rider who may be looking to upgrade a single piece of their equipment, but doesn't want to splurge on new setup. The Burton Ion BOA will make your riding better and you'll good doing it. From the flashy color design down to the grip on the outer sole, Burton spared no expense when it came to designing this boot. The Dual Zone BOA allows a rider to precisely dial in fit because the two knobs work independently of each other so the top portion of the boot and be tightened or loosened separately from the bottom portion of the boot. The inner liner also has a pull string that locks into place to keep the inner liner tight in addition to a velcro closure that helps with calf adjustment. It's light weight and comfortable day one out of the box. It's on the higher side for price, but the overall level of construction, the responsiveness of boot, strong j-bars to keep heels down and lightweight construction make this a boot money well spent for any intermediate rider looking to improve or the high level rider looking for a high level boot.
- Advanced level rider, looking for a stiff, performance fit boot
- Charging hard in all terrain types.
- Casually riders looking to up their game in terms of speed and general riding ability.
- Stiff boot that is heat moldable, but not the most comfortable option out there.
- Inner liner is velcro and cable pull. This helps keep the boot tight, but can be difficult to get in and out of.
- The grey color on the sharkskin/black color option can scuff easily.
The Burton Ion is one of the Vermont-based snowboarding brand's most famous boots. Perfect for the advanced rider who loves to crush steep lines, the stiff-flex Ion provides all the support needed for aggressive riding. Burton uses heat-reflective foil underfoot to redirect body heat back into the boot and help riders stay warm, while a moisture-wicking liner helps keep feet dry. With this kind of tech, this comfy and durable boot will keep the rider's feet dry, warm, and fatigue-free all day long.
Key Features:
- Dual-Zone High Power Focus BOA Fit System – Dual BOA lace systems allow riders to customize the fit of the upper and lower zones of their boot independently of each other. This durable cable lace system lets riders quickly tighten their boots with the twist of a dial. When it's time to take them off, riders can just pop the dial-up and slip out.
- Total Comfort Construction (TCC) – TCC liners provide a broken-in feeling from the moment the rider tries them on for the first time. This feature makes making the Burton Ion one of the most comfortable boots on the market.
- AutoCANT Cushioning – This lining uses dual-density material to make it more shock-absorbent and to allow the rider's foot to settle into a more relaxed position. This in turn increases comfort and reduces foot fatigue, meaning the Burton Ion will keep riders on their feet more and on their butt less.

What was your favorite moment with this gear?
My favorite moment in the Burton ION is shredding some hard laps off the Sky Express at Heavenly after a storm. It was one of the those true bluebird days at Tahoe with deep, fresh snow. What is the value for the money versus other options?
The Burton ION is one of the most expensive snowboard boots on the market. With a top-named brand like Burton, you will pay a premium, but with Burton, you get what you pay for. It's high priced because of it's heavy-duty construction, high quality components (liner, j-bar construction, dual zone BOA) and it's extra durable rubber outsole . Yes, you can spend less and still get a great boot. If you want an amazing boot, that fits your foot, right out othe box and is highly responsive and comfortable, you will need to spend some money. With Burton, bottom line, you get what you pay for. There's no mistake about it. When you buy a Burton-branded item, you get a top-notch product. I've been snowboarding for over 25 years and I've burned through my share of boots and gear. Burton is a brand that can be trusted when it comes to performing at a high level in every condition. What do you love about this product?
I love that the Burton Ion BOA is a stiff and responsive boot. I've been snowboarding for over 25 years and when I started riding, I went with the least expensive boot that fit. Over the years, I slowly upgraded my boots. I would typically upgrade my board and bindings before I bought a new pair of boots. When, I finally splurged and bought the Burton Ion boots and rode a day in fresh Tahoe powder, I realized how wrong I had been all those years: a good snowboard boot is the one single piece of equipment you can upgrade that will change your whole day/perspective/season. If there is one item to spend the extra money on, it's the boots. There's a lot of gear that goes into a day on the mountain and a lot of things to consider before you head out for the day, but after riding a season with the Burton IONS, I'm convinced the one piece of gear that can make or break a day is your footwear. Right out of the box, the Burton IONS are ready to shred and the instant you put them on, you will feel the power and difference a high quality, performance boot can make.4.8
