I was super excited to get the chance to test this specific air purifier from Winix. I was able to “put it through the wringer” at my house with 7 animals and a toddler, plus an HVAC system with only one air intake. Needless to say, I have pet dander and dust everywhere! While this unit isn’t recommended for larger spaces, I do not regret my decision to place it in my living room, where my family and four dogs spend most of our time. Its portability is a huge plus in my book as it can be placed almost anywhere, and since it is budget-friendly, it’s a great option for dorms, bedrooms, offices, or even moving from room to room. It is a bit louder when it runs in normal mode, but the night mode feature allows the user to set it to a lower and quieter fan speed if preferred. While most people won’t be taxing the purifier as I do, there is one downside. The design of the air purifier allows dust and fur to collect on the outside of the unit, and it collects in a tiny hole pattern on the filter instead of spreading the dust equally over the whole surface of the filter. Overall, I am impressed with the A231’s pull in dust and dander (the amount in my home is shocking) and recommend placing it in a space where it performs best, such as a bedroom or office.
