The Curated Take
The QST Pro 106's are a great pair of skis for a range of skier types from intermediate through advanced abilities. The first thing that I noticed when I hopped on the 181cm skis was their maneuverability and playfulness. These skis really respond well to exactly where you want to take them down the hill, and I especially enjoyed them in glades and trees where quick maneuvers are often required.
I'm 5'11" and a pretty aggressive skier with a race background, so I felt like the 189cm ski would have been a bit more suitable for me due to the freeride rocker profile, but with that said, I still had a great time on the 181cm skis and felt like they were stable enough at high speeds and very playful in off-piste terrain and packed powder.
Another attribute that was noticeable after a few runs was how surprisingly lightweight they were. These would likely be a good option for an AT ski that could save some weight on uphill touring while not compromising performance & stability for the downhill. And being 106 underfoot with tip & tail rocker definitely helps the skis float on top of powder and crud!
I previously owned a pair of 2018 Salomon QST 106's, and I feel like the 2024 model has made some significant improvements, including a beefier ski that's better for charging down the hill and a ski that's more versatile in various conditions except for super hardpack groomers & ice.
- Stable Sturdy Ski
- Nice float in soft snow & deep powder
- Responsive & Energetic
- Harder to carve on firmer hardpack snow
- Less forgiving on firm terrain
The icon of Salomon’s QST line, the QST 106 is a favorite across the world. This year, we revamped the ski's shape, complimenting the classic QST layup that you rely on for power and stability. The result? A ski that does it all with style and finesse - no matter the snow, no matter the terrain. Go ahead, make the mountain your playground.
