Built for demanding ascents and descents mountainside, the Sogn shell jacket performs on freeride adventures. This shell jacket has our strong 3-layer HELLY TECH® Professional waterproof/breathable construction plus a PFC-free, water-repellent treatment. You’ll stay dry while carving through deep powder. The Sogn Shell 2.0 Jacket is based on a former best-selling style of the same name. We upgraded it with key input from our professional ski ambassadors to help you go further. The articulated design enhances your freedom of movement, and details like elevated hand warmer pockets ensure backpack compatibility. Additional ski features include the RECCO® Advanced Rescue system, a ski pass pocket, a hi-vis and helmet-compatible hood, a powder skirt and fusion modular jacket-to-pant system. Good but with flaws

First the ski pass pocket is too close to the crook of your elbow so after only an hour skiing I found my hard plastic RFID card bowed and it was digging in making it uncomfortable and that was with a fleece on underneath the jacket. The second issue is the “life pocket” phone pocket on the chest, far too small for the size of modern smartphones. I’m struggling to put a standard iPhone 15 with a case on in the pocket therefore it become unusable as a pocket. Third, there is no proper arm pit vents which for a jacket of this money is bad and lastly the sizing runs a little small, there definitely isn’t loads of room for layering up underneath. Everything fits well and nothing looks baggy at all but be weary of that. Size up if in doubt. Otherwise very good jacket and I hope HH rectifies these issues for the next sogn jacket

Horrible pockets.
Originally posted at www.hellyhansen.com on Feb 9, 2025Whoever designed the “life pocket” must still be using Nokia from 2003 because that’s all that will fit in this pocket. No modern smart phone from 2010+ will fit in this pocket. There’s no inside pocket to use which means you’re left using the vents as pockets?! Where your phone just bounces around in this giant void of vent space.
It’s too bad, everything else about the jacket is great, durability, waterproof/windproof, great in a storm, great in west coast rain/slush/snow. Selling mine because there are lots of great jackets out there with MUCH better storage systems.

Tyler made great recommendations and really took the time to understand where my skill level is at and where I intend to ski. Ultimately, I was uncomfortable making the investment without trying the skis first, so I ended up buying a pair that I had rented several times and really liked.
